Intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda
New York, 28 July 2015
Statement on behalf of the Delegation of Georgia
by Ms. Nino Shekriladze, Counsellor
of the Permanent Mission of Georgia to the United Nations
Dear co-facilitators,
Thank you very much for the new draft. We are very glad and grateful to see that part of our proposal was taken into consideration and reflected in the text.
Herewith, we would like to draw your attention to paragraph 24 of the declaration and reiterate that importance of empowering people living in areas affected by conflict should be included in the text.
More specifically, we would like to propose the following change in the existing wording of para 24: to put the comma after “internally displaced persons", then continues as it is: “people living in areas affected by conflict, terrorism and humanitarian emergencies”; and delete the rest of the para.
(Note: the Para will read as follows: Sections of the population who are vulnerable and must be empowered, and whose needs are reflected in the goals and targets, include children, youth, persons with disabilities (of whom more than 80% live in poverty), older persons, indigenous peoples, migrants regardless of migration status, refugees and internally displaced persons, people living in areas affected by conflict, terrorism and humanitarian emergencies are also experiencing severe challenges.
In the Preamble, in the paragraph about People we suggest to add “and youth” after children.
Before concluding, we would like also to mention, that we support the proposals of Switzerland, as well as Qatar, regarding the language about water made yesterday.
Thank you very much.
