National Voluntary Review 3
Tuesday 19 July 2016 at 15:15 – 16:35
1-minute contribution by Rilli Lappalainen, Secretary General, Finnish NGDO Platform
to the EU, Kehys, as part of Finland’s NVR
Thank you, Minister Tiilikainen,
firstable, I would like to thank you about the highly participatory way Finland has taken
the CSOs to the process. Civil society has roles to play in implementation, monitoring and
holding the governments accountable to its citizens. Therefore we like to address some
remarks:
First of all the report does not mention anything about the level of ODA, which is an issue
of high importance when it comes to Finland’s global responsibility in implementing the
SDGs. It is necessary, that Finland takes into account the SDG -commitments while doing
budgetary decisions regarding for example development aid, gender equality and
education.
Secondly, the report recognizes well the whole of governance approach and the utmost
important role of political coherence. Finland’s goal should be, that sustainable
development is in every citizens and all actors DNA.
