Finland
22 JULY 2015, NEW YORK
POST-2015 INTERGOVERNMENTAL NEGOTIATIONS
ON THE OUTCOME DOCUMENT
STATEMENT BY FINLAND
ON GOALS AND TARGETS
DELIVERED BY AMBASSADOR RIITTA RESCH
Mr. Co-facilitator,
Finland aligns its statement with the statement made by the EU and makes these brief comments in its national capacity.
We fully support and welcome the insertion of the revised targets in the final 0-draft to finish the business on the goals and targets, as you just put it. The list after all was made after careful consideration respecting the content and balance of the OWG proposal, which we support. Nevertheless, we think that all of the proposed targets should have been integrated, including the target 14.c. We should make every attempt that our Agenda is consistent with previous agreements and the international law, as well as, have the level of specificity satisfactory for the Heads of State and Government to endorse. Finding a value for the 'X's in the document is also important for the sake of the universality of our Agenda.
The credibility of the Agenda is at stake.
Now, we have to make every effort to find a solution for 14.c.
On the SDGs and targets and the introductory paragraphs, a short introduction will be sufficient, since the goals and targets, which will be included in their entirety, speak for themselves. The MoI targets should be included only once. For this reason, there is no need to include the introduction or the chapeau of the OWG proposal in the Agenda.
Thank you, Mr. Co-facilitator.
