Cambodia
Mr. Chair and Excellencies
First, Cambodia would like to thank the speakers this morning for delivering impressive remarks
and experiences regarding the thematic areas of the CSD18 in the Western Asia & Arab Region. As of the
practical aspects, Cambodia under the prominent leadership of H.E. Dr. MOK Mareth, Senior Minister
and Minister of Environment has introduced and continuously implemented the sustainable strategies
for sound and effective environmental management vital to the sustained socio-economic growth. The
Ministry has enhanced the awareness of the 3 Rs (Reduce, Reduce and Recycle) to the population and
the public at large at the local and national level as well as the Asian region. Such sustainable
environmental practices integrate the green growth action plan into the communities nationwide and
strengthen it through regional cooperation, and development partners. The Ministry has also introduced
Three C- Clean Land, Air and Water and it continuously implements the three Cs at the Community and
national level. What Cambodia would like to see is the outcomes of the CSD-18 from the practices and
propositions identified as follow:
1. Inclusion Environmentally Sustainable Public Transport, (EST) into the strategic development
plan; Master Plan for EST for pollution control and effectively manage waste, in particular,
areas in the process of urbanization for sound waste management from solid to liquidity
substances. This, therefore, raises the living standards of the rural people and the poor
population of Cambodia and other countries. The EST projects necessitate institutional
collaborations among line ministries, i.e. Ministry of Ministry and Industry, Ministry of Public
Transport, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of
Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery, relevant development partners and multistakeholders.
2. Infrastructure innovation for agriculture and economic development; integration of climate
change into the sustainable development
3. Empowerment of women in educating the younger generation of the sustainable waste
management and environment protection
4. Efficient Energy Production: small-scale renewable energy production with efficiency & R&D
5. Chemical waste management: prevention of the transportation of hazardous and chemical
waste from dumping into Cambodia, as the Prime Minister and the Senior Minister often
emphasizes that the country is not a dumping site for industrial solid wastes ranging from
chemicals and other hazardous wastes.
Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman
