Bahamas
Bahamas Intervention
CSD-14
Regional discussions/Multi-stakeholder dialogue
Region: Latin America and the Caribbean
3 May 2006
Thank you Mr Chairman.
The Bahamas would also like to echo the concerns expressed by the colleague from Barbados, as
they relate to the reports of the Secretariat not containing many SIDS specific issues for
consideration, or focusing on the Caribbean sub-region in general.
Also it has been stated that the importance of tourism as a major economic factor is
unquestionable for many Caribbean SIDS. The Bahamas would also like to draw attention to its
leading role in the evolution of the tourism industry by announcing the SIDS Tourism Conference,
which will be held in The Bahamas, from 7-9 June 2006.
One of the major components of the Conference is the use of renewable energy resources to
achieve some level of energy security. The Bahamas hopes to receive broad support as SIDS
continue to seek to use a SIDS-SIDS/South-South approach and lessons learned strategy to build
resilience in the energy forum.
Thank you.
