    Description

    Naseej provides paid internships, mentorship programs, and skills training to university students in the Kingdom and island of Bahrain, focused especially on empowering youth and women architecture and engineering graduates to gain practical work experience. The program aims to support Bahraini youth and equip them with the skills needed to address pressing issues in the field of real estate, including climate change, inclusion, and affordable housing.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

    The internships provide hands-on assignments and rotate students from the Kingdom and island of Bahrain across departments like construction management, project engineering, design, and sustainability. Students shadow managers at project sites, assist with tasks, and are involved in department meetings to gain exposure. Dedicated mentoring times are scheduled. Students prepare presentations on their internship learning to executives. The program emphasizes supporting women engineers/architects to provide a pathway into the male-dominated industry. The skills gained aim to equip youth to meet future SIDS challenges such as building climate resilience, sustainable communities, and affordable housing using limited resources.

    Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

    The internship focus is on building the technical capabilities, soft skills and mindsets needed to excel in the field and drive sustainable development. Students get practical insights into construction technologies, project delivery methods, design tools like BIM, and sustainability best practices. Mentors provide career guidance and advice on overcoming gender barriers. Naseej arranges technical workshops and company-sponsored training courses to expand their knowledge. Hands-on use of Naseej's technologies and collaboration tools trains students on real-world practices. Top interns are recruited for Naseej's graduate program to further grow as future professionals and role models equipped to address SIDS challenges.

    Coordination mechanisms

    The program is coordinated between Naseej's HR department, department managers acting as mentors, and faculty at the University of Bahrain's College of Engineering and College of Architecture and Design. Students apply for the 2-3 months internships which are tailored to their study focus. The HR department oversees recruitment with input on high-potential students from faculty. Selected students are matched with experienced department managers to supervise their on-the-job training.
