Description
Based in Auroville, South India, Sunlit Future has been implementing 'India Water Project', a project focused on facilitating access to water at habitation level in remote areas across various parts of India. Our project has proven to reduce the burden of fetching water from long distances through extreme physical conditions and also in turn has contributed to improved sanitation and hygiene practices. More than 2 lakh people in remote locations of India have been benefitted through our interventions in partnership with our grassroot level NGOs. Our systems are run using solar energy which also makes a contribution towards cutting down the usage of fossil fuel. With our continued aim to create a better future to the marginalized population by bringing them access to one of the basic human right, the right to access clean water, our project continues to make a difference in their lives.
The villages are identified by our partner NGOs and the Sunlit Future team conducts a technical assessment survey to each of the village to capture the ground level data which are required to design an appropriate system for specific locations. Our systems are decentralized single village based systems. The beneficiaries are directly involved in the implementation work by making their own storage tanks at the village level, laying pipelines, forming village committees, etc. Sunlit Future technical team installs the system at the villages and also trains a designated pump operator at each village on how to run the system. Through regular visits and reporting, we ensure the effective functioning of the systems in the long-run.
We democratize the technology by providing trainings for local youth on basic services and monitoring of our systems. Over the last few years, we have trained more than 50 youth towards repair and maintenance of the systems and we network with them remotely to guide them on the works. This has helped us overcome the challenge of delayed time to attend to repairs and defects in the systems. Each of our intervention villages have a dedicated pump operator supported by the Village water committee who is trained to run the system.
Sunlit Future works with various grassroot level NGOs who have a strong understanding and great social connect with our beneficiary communities. We partner with them to identify the villages, understand the need, install the systems, establish village level committees to maintain the system after implementation, etc. We specialize in using GIS-based field data collection methods to capture the data for assessment and monitoring purposes seamlessly. Our tripartite stakeholder involvement in the project's implementation and maintenance play a key role in successful functioning of the systems.
