#SDGAction52016
    Description
    Description

By June 2024, to demonstrate, through the appropriate use of technology and digital solutions, active restoration of coral reefs, prevention of conflicting situation with locals, and a fully scientifically managed area, measured by benchmarked performance against the IUCN Green List Standard for protected and conserved areas.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

    1. IMPLEMENTATION OF ADVANCE CAMERA SYSTEM FOR LIVE VIEWING AND MONITORING: support EcoMode Society as the flagship Pointe-aux-Feuilles site for ‘TECH4NATURE’ partnership 2. CORAL FARMING / ACTIVE RESTORATION; support active reef restoration techniques over the site through scientifically proven methodologies through artificial intelligence AI monitoring, and prototype development and feasibility study 3. GREEN LIST STANDARD IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION: support virtual protected areas assessment and digital certification through the IUCN Green List programme in Pointe-aux-Feuilles for Mauritius 4. PUBLIC AWARENESS AND VISIBILITY/COMMUNICATIONS: public participation in active reef restoration, community-based discuss and involvement and development of online interactive digital tool for live viewing and sensitisation campaigns. 5. VISIBILITY: promote project and collaboration in each country and globally; exchange lessons learned with other TECH4NATURE partners; and share success stories and case studies through media platforms, events and in overall communications

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

    1. EMS is a signatory to the project MOU 2. Advance Camera Setup Result: Proof-of-concept tested for AI technology for coral monitoring, live viewing/streaming, software for coral growths and biodiversity assessment, site assessment before and after, protection and surveillance of the site, publications of scientific papers, which will also include improved connectivity for scientific data collection and sharing. 3. Coral Farming / Active restoration Result: Nurseries constructed and maintained, coral fragmented and transplantation over degraded areas. 4. Estimated number of coral fragments to be transplanted is a minimum of 25,000. 5. Public Awareness and Visibility/Communications Result: Public participation through a proper protocol and online voluntary system (due to an extremely large volunteer request by youngsters and general public). Local community participation from start of project till end of project and further continuity. Public active participation in nursery construction, coral fragmentation and plantation over the site. 6. Implementation of the IUCN Green List Standard in the Pointe-aux-Feuilles conservation area. 7. Co-create and implement with project partners a communications plan for Tech4Nature Mauritius.
