    Description
    Intro

One of the key activities of the Company is education, training and attraction of highly skilled engineering talent. The Company actively and systematically invests in building and developing of the educational cluster in the regions of operation. In 2014, the World of New Opportunities charitable program was elaborated with the view of advanced development of the areas of operation. The educational function of the program is represented by School Break, IMAKE Engineering Marathon, and SVET ON Youth Forum. The charity recipients under these projects are children and teenagers, parents, teachers and teaching staff.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

The educational function of the World of New Opportunities program is represented by three projects described below. The School Break: Start Changes with Yourself project consists of 4 activities: SchoolBreak.EDU – a comprehensive program for teachers; SchoolBreak.TEEN – a comprehensive program for development of soft skills in students; SckoolBreak.TEAM – a development program for parents; SchoolBreak.CLUB – public lectures and webinars on relevant educational issues; Over the year, several educational modules are implemented as part of the School Break project for teachers and school masters; based on the outcome of education, the most active teachers participate in an educational traineeship and have the opportunity to obtain a personal travel grant for traineeship and education. The LIGA IMAKE project includes a cycle of related activities: IMAKE CAMP enables development of hard skills in children through edutainment and game technologies; the IMAKE engineering marathon enables development of engineering skills and inventive creativity; the LIGAIMAKE platform enables presentation and promotion of young makers’ solutions, as well as holding online quizzes and educational quests for project participants. The SVET ON youth online forum was first held in 2020 and enabled young people from northern regions of the country to have a two-days discussion on youth entrepreneurship trends, development of volunteering activities in the regions, engineering and digital technologies. The project monitoring system is based on the principles of feedback from the participants, project team members, regular assessment by experts of public contests, as well as annual analysis of program results and effects.

    Results/Outputs/Impacts

Quantitative results of the projects: during two days, more than 2,000 students took part, 70 teachers from 8 schools implemented new educational technologies, 500 online forum participants from three regions, 5 laureates of international contests, 1 young participant received a patent for his invention. Qualitative results and social effects of educational projects: For children and young people: building and developing of professional competences, mastering of skills for building a professional track and career identity formation, development of inventor competences, self-fulfillment in social initiatives; For teachers: implementation of progressive educational methods and technologies in school and additional education, integration of principles of informal education in their activities. For parents: a dialogue with children and teachers, development of parental competences and skills.

    Enabling factors and constraints

Accumulative social effect of implementation of the World of New Opportunities program (effective in the areas since 2014) became a favorable factor. Program customization for each region with regard to the specifics – programs and activities were formed for certain audience, taking into account all specific features of northern regions. Collaboration with the education department and other partners in the regions, that provided administrative and other support to the projects, was a success factor. Limitations and growth points of the project – refinement of the system of monitoring of social effects of the project.

    Sustainability and replicability

The presented projects are the winners of the international and Russian contests: high expert ratings, publications, articles about the results of the project allow to multiply and replicate the results, share successful practices with colleagues. Remote format allows to distribute and promote these projects. In December 2020, a Forum of (Extra)Ordinary Schools was held, where European experts were the speakers, and teachers from 15 regions of the country were the participants. Holding a forum enabled sharing of the experience and distribution of educational practices in the regions of company operation. Project stability factors are a comprehensive approach, project flexibility and quick adaptation to the current request or external challenges (pandemics), professional networking and community formation in the regions of operation, transfer of skills and work methods to project participants with subsequent adoption and integration of the experience gained.

    COVID-19 Impact

In 2020, up to 90% of the activities and educational projects were held in the online and phydgital (integration of digital and physical space) formats. Regular monitoring, feedback from stakeholders, flexible decision-making allowed to preserve values and priorities of the program, as well as achieve target performance. New realities of the pandemic period enabled experimenting with formats, expansion of participants’ geography, implementation of ambitious ideas of project development. Participants from other regions were able to tap into educational projects and receive high-quality educational services. The company is determined to preserve the best practices and achievements of online education and implement them in the work with remote regions and settlements.
