Social Entrepreneurship Training Program and Support

    The objective of the program is to equip and prepare the youth to understand the social enterprise (SDGs) landscape and further empower them on an actionable information to enable them make informed decisions on furthering their social impact skills and knowledge, developing their interest and ability to apply their learning achievements creatively to sustain and scale their conceived impact idea or prototype.
    Implementation of the Project/Activity

    The program is designed to have the following key activities; 1. Skills and Social Enterprise Development Support. 2. Access to Markets 3. Mentoring and Support 4. Internship Opportunities 5. Technology Transfer and Further Fellowships.

    1. Skills and Social Enterprise Development Support; the aim is to motivate participants to consider social entrepreneurship as an alternative and viable option for self employment and wealth creation. It would create healthy minds and contribute to social cohesion, enhancement of participants and promote socio-economic development and growth. The innovative and creative ideas that would emerge would march participants along the road to economic development, creation of wealth, shaping and sharing of sustainable best practices.

    It would assist visionary entrepreneurs, with daring ideas who are transforming their lives, community and business. At the end, participants would be able to produce and submit a bankable business plan which would be submitted to our wide networks of development partners for support.

    2. Access to Markets; As part of supporting participants initiatives, effort would be made to seek global development partners that can connect social businesses with the global social impact community. This would build the necessary skills and capacities of participants to become reliable business partners that meet the standards of of global social business. It would build up competitive local enterprises that inspire confidence for both local and global impact investment community.

    3. Mentoring and Support; This unit would provide ongoing support to participants who have started a prototype or are growing an existing enterprise. It would include matching participants with successful social impact professional in society amongst others, social business leaders, impact corporate volunteerism, peer mentoring, impact clubs and societies, impact community structures etc.

    4. Internship Opportunities; this is the most critical aspect to realize individual participation in the program. In order to attract more participants for their involvement, efforts would be made to provide them with internship opportunities aligning each to their preferences and ensure that they are successful and effective in supporting participants efforts.

    5. Technology Transfer and further Fellowship; Training methods would include digital skills as well as individual and group learning activities. Participants group work; brain storming and social media discussions would be complemented with virtual presentations, with the view to stimulating participants ability to link concepts, data and social media to their own work and life experiences. A dedicated social media platform would be created to display activities of the program.

    Capacity

    The program is engaged in a strategic partnership with with affiliates and would provide targeted investment and support for its activities. ASEN is committed in building human capital in Africa that would spur economic growth. The program would be a rolling cohort selection. 50 young creative and innovative individuals would be selected as the first cohort. Each University would provide the skills participants need to develop and grow their prototypes using the same tailor-made curriculum. 70 hours of intense training, hands-on impact driven activities and further exposure to innovative uses of technology. The program would work closely with it's affiliates to build human capital while addressing the main constraints to enterprise growth and development. This investment has yielded positive outcomes in the past through the "The World Ghana Youth Want" program.

    Governed

    Lancaster and Ashesi University would provide inviting, conducive meeting place (space) for participants of the program to network, share ideas, and understand what opportunities the social impact space affords them. <br />
    African Social Entrepreneurs Network (ASEN) through its affiliates of regional expert professionals would equip participants with the right attitude for business, train participants to acquire skills on generic aspects of enterprises; strong self awareness and confidence, long term goal setting ability, decision making power and independent problem solving attitude in order for them to become self reliant, financially discipline and architects of their own future. <br />
    ASEN would impact basic skills that would enable participants to understand the key aspects of social impact: including economics of scale, improving productivity, business enterprises, and above all become master of social business growth. <br />
    ASEN would equip participants with management skills for developing small enterprise: business planning; understanding markets and marketing skills, general cost management (pricing and overhead costs), financial management (record keeping, cash projections, capital management, profit calculations etc.) and overall business management skills. <br />
    ASEN would provide a platform for participants to share experiences whiles learning to build relationships with the global social impact community. <br />
    Millennium Campus Network (MCN) would provide further fellowship to groups who successful complete the program. MCN program convenes student leaders across university campuses to develop values, professional skills, pathways they would need in order to succeed in the social impact sector, from performance management to writing grants to reflecting on compassion fatigue. This would be an interactive community building leadership accelerator, an ideal bootcamp for participants aiming to join the global impact sector. Participants would have the opportunity to network with top student leaders across campuses and professionals working in the same field, as well as to pitch their prototypes to earn funding.
