    Description
    Description
OBJECTIVES OF THE INITIATIVE The project we are carrying out here has the overall objective of “Promoting a spirit of resilience and community participation in reforestation to fight against climate change”. The specific objectives defined are: - Raising awareness for 03 months of 05 associations and Community Based Organisations (CBO) on the excessive use of firewood and the consequences of deforestation in our city. It will be a question of organizing meetings bringing together mainly CBO and various associations with traditional local authorities or decentralized local communities to inform on the need to reforest and reduce the use of firewood while proposing a progressive migration solution. towards the use of domestic gas and other non-fossil energy sources; - Create 02 green spaces with 20,000 trees on the outskirts of the city with a view to considerably slowing down desertification and increasing the natural productivity of trees while reducing the gap caused by deforestation. The target reforestation sites will be areas located on the outskirts of the city: a space near the Nassarao district in the Garoua 2nd district, the second near Djoumassi in the Garoua 1st district. We also keep in mind that this project can serve as a springboard for possible future projects relating to the intensification of reforestation in the city of Garoua and its surroundings. MONITORING, EVALUATION AND SUSTAINABILITY PLAN Once the project is completed, it will obviously be necessary to ensure the sustainability of the results obtained; for this we plan to monitor the growth and safety of the green spaces that will be created. And count with the same momentum to extend the green spaces in the other localities of the region. We will then provide at the end of the project a detailed report of the activities carried out, the objectives achieved, the difficulties encountered, the performances achieved and the prospects. Socio-cultural sustainability: The changes in behavior and attitude brought about by the project within the local communities will motivate them to actively participate in decision-making in all other future activities. Associations, CBO and other participants will meet in a common spirit to discuss problems related to the environment and having socio-cultural consequences leading to changes in secular social habits. The project will significantly affect the life of the communities, their activities, thus bringing about the desired change. Their active participation in the decision-making process, monitoring and evaluation will bring ownership of the project. YOUTH CARE NETWORK (YOUCANET) plans to continue the project through income generated from membership fees and external support received from government programs and other donor agencies. Technical sustainability: The staff will have the capacity in the form of skills, knowledge and equipment to manage the project and continue the activities. All technical services will be made available to the beneficiaries. YOUCANET's equipment and means of travel after completion are used for accounting, documentation and mailing purposes.
    Expected Impact
This initiative has a major focus on climate change. We will inform and raise awareness among the populations of the city of Garoua with the aim of raising awareness about the extent of the issue and leading them to take initiatives so that deforestation and the excessive use of firewood are gradually reduced. . We will encourage them to lead this fight personally so that they are also actors for change and resilience against change by setting up green spaces made up of 20,000 trees.
