Lograr una pesca ms productiva y sostenible, abordando las prcticas de pesca no sostenibles a travs del Enfoque Ecosistemico de la Pesca (EEP) e investigaciones en la flota semi industrial.
Promover la distribucin equitativa de los beneficios mediante una mayor comprensin del contexto socioeconmico del subsector de la pesca de arrastre de camarn, las capturas incidentales y su relacin con la flota artesanal.
Generar un proceso de fortalecimiento de capacidades del sector pesquero artesanal que permita diversificar sus medios de vida para garantizar oportunidades de ingresos y trabajo decente.
Las prcticas de pesca responsable pretenden mejorar la gestin y prcticas de arrastre para reducir la captura incidental mediante el uso de tecnologas apropiadas y otras medidas de manejo, donde el conocimiento cientfico y tradicional se orienta a desarrollar mejores prcticas en la pesca de arrastre. Dichos conocimientos coadyuvarn a la institucionalidad a un manejo sostenible de esa pesquera.
A anterior trabajo se suma los esfuerzos en cuanto a Medios de vida, seguridad alimentaria y nutricional, y equilibrio de gnero. Dicho componente est dirigido a introducir una mejor gestin, la cual puede requerir un cambio de prcticas para reducir la captura incidental y tambin una reduccin del esfuerzo pesquero, lo cual podra dar lugar a una reduccin de las capturas, al menos al corto plazo.
El proyecto investigar el papel de la captura incidental en la seguridad alimentaria y en los medios de vida. El desarrollo de la capacidad para la diversificacin de los medios de vida es fundamental para garantizar oportunidades de ingresos y trabajo decente.
