    Description

    The International Association for Lighthouses and Aids to Navigation (IALA) became an intergovernmental organization (IGO), the International Organization for Marine Aids to Navigation in August 2024. It's commitment for a sustainable ocean is expressed through the Singapore Declaration, adopted by the first general assembly of the IGO held February 2025.

    In this declaration, Member States expressed their commitment to advance the development, decarbonization, and adoption of updated management practices for maintaining a global network of sustainable and efficient Marine Aids to Navigation. This commitment aligns with achieving internationally agreed emission control targets while supporting IALA’s contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The emphasis is on systems that protect the marine environment and promote sustainability to minimize impact on the world’s resources.

    For that, interl alia, the IALA commitment is :
    - To encourage technical committees of IALA to fully take sustainability issues into account in their work.
    - To contribute to the diffusion of Ocean Litteracy about SDG 14.
