    Description
    Description

We are using immersive technologies such as, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence, to assist visualisation of climate impacts on coastal areas of Mauritius and neighbouring islands. This is based on contemporary scientific data, which is unfortunately often inaccessible and/or incomprehensible to the general public. As such, our approach is based on the UN's priority areas, and we aim at digitally recreating a portion of Mauritian region impacted by sea-level rise for future simulation. By creating immersive visualisations, our goal is to create easily understandable scenarios for education and disaster preparedness.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

As the majority of our work is digital, most of the work is being carried out inhouse and using commercially available software, as well as open-sourced ones. Where hardware, for instance , VR headsets and drones are required, partnerships with universities and resellers for rental and acquisition have been negotiated.

Arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer

Partnerships with local and international institutions/ universities is being negotiated so as to improve and enhance efficiency in the project delivery. The local school of Architecture, Mauritius Research and Innovation Council and the National Computer Board been approached to allow access to technologies such as drones (aerial photogrammetry), laser cutting and 3D printing, among others. Their respective partnerships and expertise will also result in potential collaboration with other parties having similar aligned perspectives.

    Coordination mechanisms

Our aim when delivering our projects is to have minimal carbon-footprint. Coordination mechanisms are mostly undertaken via video conferencing, and we are also experimenting with Meta's 'Workplace' collaborative platform using virtual reality technology. Local in person meetings are also carried out when required. Project management software are also use within the team so that everyone is aware of our deliverables.
