Arab Coalition for SDGs
Description
The methodology for establishing the Arab coalition for SDGs is focusing on networking the CSOs, CBOs, and Associations and Unions in each country and give them awareness about the SDGs, especially the seventeenth goal. Then Forming National Civil Society Coalition in each country, and finally by mobilizing the efforts the Arab Civil Society Platform for SDGs will be established.
Role of National Coalition
The following are examples of the type of roles the national coalitions will undertake:
1. Map out existing civil society efforts towards reaching the SDGs, and produce periodical progress reports reflecting these achievements
2. Carry out monitoring and social accountability efforts to ensure local government and public authorities are aligning their work, resources, and strategies with SDGs
3. Advocate the national government to re-align their policies, programmes, and ultimately resources to the realization of SDGs
4. Networking and forming regional and global coalitions to exchange and streamline the efforts on SDGs

A consortium-led approach will be followed whereby a number of prominent CSOs will come together with the mandate to fulfill the objectives and activities of this intervention.
- The Arab regional coalition will have representation of all countries within the Arab region
- The regional representation will be based on national-level teams delegated by each country
Towards establishing the above-illustrated vision, a phased and gradual process needs to follow. Accordingly, and through this intervention, a 12-month pilot phase will be implemented. Through this pilot, 5 countries will be participating from the Arab region
A set of specific objectives will be followed:
1. Formalize the national SDG coalition, ensure their diverse composition, and reinforce their role in their respective countries
2. Support to national-level action that ensures a systematic process of evaluating, planning, budgeting, and mainstreaming of SDGs in programmes and services
3. Exchange of best practices and innovative models of mainstreaming of SDGs in public, private, and civil society initiatives
4. Conduct regional-level meetings to discuss and formulate the vision and strategic framework for setting up the Arab SDG regional platform
5. Carry out a lobbying campaign and a parallel awareness campaign to promote the vision, strategic framework, and detailed action steps to broaden the structure of the regional platform
