Aquaconnect - A mobile app based market place to provide access to Aqua farmers to marine resources and markets

    Back ground and Objectives:
    Coastal Aquaculture Research Institute is an independent research agency that aims to promote sustainability through research, training, education and out-reach programmes to the Aqua farmers and Hatcheries. CARI is incubated by Technology Business Incubator (TBI- UoM), University of Madras. It is co-founded and advised by a panel of IIT Kanpur Alumni.

    Aqua Connect, a flag-ship initiative of CARI, aims at address the sustainability issues at 5 billion USD aqua farming products marketplace. Aqua Connect provides farmers with the information of seed availability, farm feeds availability and prospective buyers information. Aqua connect also helps hatcheries to plan their hatching cycle based on the information provided by our advanced data analytics service. This also prevents them to bleach the unsold Shrimp larvae in to the oceans.

    Aquaconnect's predictive algorithm maps the requirements of each stake holder( Farmer, Hatchery and Buyer) in the ecosystem and matches base on their requirements. This program aims to champion the 'Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)' set by United Nations and will continue to work with the Aqua farming communities on technology transfer and training.


    Implementations methodologies:
    Toll-free helpline for Aqua farmers to access market information - We launched Aqua Connect toll-free number 1800 123 1623 in 4 Indian languages that are widely spoken in Coastal regions. This Toll-free number provides Hatchery information, Seeds Availability and location based informations to the farmers. The pilot launch of Toll-free number actively engages about 3000 aqua farmers from the states of Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh.

    Mobile App intervention & Data analytics for Hatcheries - Aqua connect mobile app for Hatcheries helps them update their production information and stages of larvae available for seed stocking. When a farmer requests the seeds, the hatcheries receive in-app notification to connect with the farmers. The hatcheries can plan their hatching cycle based on the information provided by the Data analytics platform.

    Mobile App intervention for Exporters & Location based Analytics for procurement - Aquaconnect data analytics platform understands the Vannamei harvest trends in India and helps the Exporters plan their procurement decisions accordingly. Our data analytics research service for exporters aims to save time, effort and money on scouting the harvesting farmers & find the right Count/Kg, Tonnage from the preferred locations around them.
