Progress report for
Task Team on CSO Development Effectiveness and Enabling Environment (Task Team)
Achievement at a glance
The Task Team has completed the deliverable “Interactive Guidance (Online materials on CSO Development Effectiveness and Enabling Environment)” in February 2021. The Online Interactive Guidance is designed to build awareness on the need to engage civil society organizations (CSOs) in development processes. It consists of five modules that each play a part in creating an environment in which CSOs can meaningfully and effectively contribute to implementation and monitoring of international development processes. Each module starts with an animated video introducing the topic and is followed by good practice examples; insights from the field in the form of video interviews; in-depth readings; and an online activity. The Online Interactive Guidance is available on the open online course provider Coursera: Effective Engagement of Civil Society in DevelopmentThe Task Team has completed the deliverable “Translated Materials (French and Spanish)” in the last quarter of 2020. Developed as a tool for awareness raising, the Guidance aims to contribute to a broader understanding of the commitments on the CSO enabling environment and CSO development effectiveness. It explains what the commitments entail, while indicating key areas of good practice. A variety of examples from both the global and the country level is included. Originally published in English, the Guidance is now available in French and Spanish: https://taskteamcso.com/guidance/
Challenges faced in implementation
No significant challenges were faced during implementation of the reported deliverables.Beneficiaries
The Task Team believes that CSOs are key actors in development and seeks to promote their effective engagement in development processes. This is a shared responsibility that calls for a multi-stakeholder approach: providers of development cooperation, partner country governments and CSOs all have a role to play.
