Safe Births + Healthy Homes
Achievement at a glance
1,925 mothers and infants have given birth at 4 Safe Births + Healthy Homes (SB+HH) solar clinics and have received a portable solar light for use at home for infant care after delivery. Approximately 10,300 people in the homes are benefiting from increased access to safe renewable lighting.Rates of satisfaction with the program are extremely high among health clinic nurses, staff and administration as well as SB+HH participants. Two clinics are reporting an increase of 35% in attended births and two clinics are seeing a 70% increase in attended births since implementing SB+HH as a community maternal health intervention.
Challenges faced in implementation
Challenges include ongoing training of staff and midwives as well as community outreach.Beneficiaries
Primary beneficiaries are new mothers and infants.
Other beneficiaries include staff and administrators at the newly electrified rural clinics and staff quarters as well as the entire catchment areas served by the improved community resources.
Secondary beneficiaries are other members of the 1,925 households receiving pico solar lights.
