Progress report for
First State of the Ocean status report, delivered through EU's Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS)
Achievement at a glance
Following the publication of the 1st Ocean state report (http://marine.copernicus.eu/ocean-state-report-2016-1st-issue/), a second report was prepared in the course of 2017. It was released at the end of 2018 (http://marine.copernicus.eu/science-learning/ocean-state-report/ocean-state-report-2nd-issue/). The purpose of this report was to have updated information on major challenges faced by the seas and oceans with a specific zoom on: earths energy imbalance driving increased global warming, record-breaking wave heights observed along the EU coastline due to extreme warm conditions, a dramatic drop of sea-ice extent drop in the Antarctic never observed since 20 years, first publication on CO2 absorption trends by the ocean increasing significantly since 2000 (meaning ocean acidification).Beneficiaries
