Progress report for
Students Acting for Honesty, Integrity and Equality (SHINE Project)
Achievement at a glance
During 2017-2018, we helped +5000 schoolchildren to get better services and infrastructures, such as school buildings and clean water, through rights based approaches. Our network of schools has monitored over 40 projects and education infrastructures with a total value of more than USD 30 million that are published on www.DevelopmentCheck.org. Our anti-corruption and integrity building model fixed on average over 25% of problems identified by local monitors through cross-sectorial collaboration and empowerment of change makers.Challenges faced in implementation
The environment for society to get involved in anti- corruption, including difficult access to information, makes the community-led monitoring activities difficult;\\\\r\\\\nEconomic difficulties faced by the country (inflation, slow down of growth, flood, etc.) lead to erosion in political will and government drive in seriously addressing corruption. Some key stakeholders involved in anti-corruption in DRC are reluctant to engage with CERC because of its branding as a corruption fighter; Some key government institutions are not willing to provide information necessary for the conduct the monitoring of development projects funded by the DRC Government such as infrastructures and services delivery.Beneficiaries
The students who are receiving training and who are benefiting from the improvement in projects and services intended for them, as well as the wider community who are also beneficiaries of such projects and services. For example, monitoring the construction of the school would directly benefit the student monitor, but also the generations of children following, as well.
