The Revillagigedo Archipelago was declared the largest marine reserve in North America by Mexicos President Pea Nieto on November 24th, 2017. The National Park located 250 miles west of mainland Mexico and measuring 148,087 km2 is the countrys first fully protected marine reserve free from fishing and other extractive activities.Beneficiaries
The region is known for its vast array of marine life including sharks, tunas, whales, dolphins, and one of the largest resident populations of oceanic manta rays in the world. These species rely on the area for shelter, food, and a safe place to breed before continuing along their migratory journeys in the Pacific. Revillagigedo is also an ecotourism destination renowned for its world-famous diving.
