Achievement at a glance
Let There Be Light International has solar-electrified 21 off-grid health clinics in Uganda, impacting the health and wellbeing of the 379,898 people in the 21 catchment areas. 5,566 people (on average) are being treated each week at the 21 improved clinics (according to the District Health Ministry reports).Let There Be Light International has donated and distributed 6,725 safe solar lights to beneficiaries living in extreme poverty in off-grid communities and in one or more of our M.O.D.E.S. (Mothers, Orphans, People living with Disabilities, Elders, Students).
Let There Be Light International has held 110 Solar Outreach and Education Sessions in Uganda and Malawi to educate communities about the benefits of safe solar lighting over dirty and dangerous paraffin/kerosene lighting.
Challenges faced in implementation
Challenges include the support and development of local NGO partners, a lack of reliable funding, and lack of policy support for reaching the furthest first.Beneficiaries
Beneficiaries are individuals and families living in extreme poverty in off-grid communities who are unable to participate in market-based energy access projects due to age, disability, geography, and/or care-taking responsibilities. Let There Be Light International (LTBLI) recognizes the importance of market-based approaches as we work to achieve SDG7, but (LTBLI) also insists that meeting the needs of the furthest first must include pre-market households.
