Achievement at a glance
During 2017 EMBLAS project presented results of ecological status assessment of the Black Sea, based on the Joint Black Sea surveys 2016 (http://emblasproject.org/archives/2047 ). The results were widely discussed at the press-conferences at national and regional levels in Ukraine and Georgia. The Joint Black Sea surveys -2 took place in 2017, focusing on development of the list of marine life identified from DNA traces, investigation of how toxic pollutants are being decomposed by bacteria with the depth of the Sea and further development of the list of the Black Sea Specific Pollutants. The results of the surveys will be available in spring 2018. The studies contributed to the initial assessment of marine waters, determination of good environmental status and establishment of environmental targets and indicators.\r\n\r\nIn order to involve public into the environmental monitoring of the Black Sea and support practical actions to the reduction of marine litter, the mobile application Black Sea Savebook was successfully launched and applied in the three project countries. This game in interactive way stimulates youth to look for and make photos of found so called Environmental sentinels mollusks and algae, which are the indicators of good environmental status of the Black Sea coast; to identify and mark dolphins if any and to get additional points and awards for collected beach litter (http://emblasproject.org/archives/2112 ) During the summer more than 1000 protocols were received, more than 50 collective marine litter clean-ups were self-arranged and a large learning process with chat capacities with professionals has been initiated.\r\n\r\nThe project also supported reinforcement of the cooperation between the Ministries of Environment of Georgia and Ukraine on the Black Sea protection by supporting the signing of the relevant Memorandum on the bilateral cooperation in implementation of EU Marine Strategy Framework Directives and EU Water Framework Directive (http://emblasproject.org/archives/2252 )\r\n
