Background
The OECD, with the assistance of UN DESA, is launching a new web portal within its STIP Compass Platform that will map the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) policy activities of International Organisations (IOs).
The new portal will serve as a centralised repository for sharing knowledge on IOs’ STI policy activities, thereby promoting mutual learning, and fostering future cooperation and policy alignment, particularly in the realm of financing mechanisms.
The new portal will complement national data on STI policy initiatives, mechanisms, and programmes already collected by the OECD STIP Compass platform (in cooperation with the European Commission) and build on existing efforts by the UN Interagency Task Team on STI for the SDGs (IATT) to map IOs’ STI policy initiatives, as well as the information available on the UN’s Online Platform (2030Connect).
In the initial pilot phase of the project, 15 IOs are invited to participate.
The Side Event during the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development showcased the project's progress and outlined the roadmap for the portal’s official launch in 2026. It served as a valuable platform for gathering participant feedback on potential uses of the Portal, desired features, and perceived opportunities and challenges. Additionally, the event provided an important opportunity to engage with a wider audience and served as a bridge to the Science Summit events held in parallel with the FfD4 Conference.
