Background
Prior to the Preparatory Meeting of the UN 2023 Water Conference on 25 October 2022, the President of the General Assembly hosted a one-day consultation with stakeholders on 24 October 2022.
In a series of five roundtables, this day-long hybrid event aimed at discussing potential transformative game changers that can feed into the Water Action Agenda. The accelerators of the Global Acceleration Framework (governance, capacity development, data and information, innovation and financing) along with the suggested 5 themes for the Interactive Dialogues of the UN 2023 Water Conference formed the basis of the discussion.
The stakeholder consultation of 24 October and the preparatory meeting of 25 October are important milestones on the road to the UN 2023 Water Conference, which, together with other sequencing events throughout the 77th session of the General Assembly, will lead up to the SDG Summit in September 2023.

In preparation to the Conference, UN DESA, through its Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG) compiled views, comments and inputs from stakeholders on the themes proposed by the co-hosts for the interactive dialogues of the UN 2023 Water Conference. Non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, academic institutions, the scientific community, the private sector, philanthropic organizations and other stakeholders were invited to contribute their views, comments and inputs on the themes proposed by the co-hosts for the interactive dialogues through a second global online stakeholder consultation.
