HESI Communities of Practice
The HESI Community of Practice (CoP) has been established as part of the
Higher Education Sustainability Initiative as a structured, action-oriented platform to support collaboration across the higher education community in advancing sustainable development.
The CoP brings together members from higher education institutions, university networks, student organizations, and HESI Action Groups to exchange knowledge, showcase innovative practices, and contribute to policy-relevant thinking and recommendations across teaching and learning, research and innovation, and partnerships and engagement, in support of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
On 14 April 2026 the first meeting of the CoP was held, which focused on identifying how collaboration through higher education can be strengthened to better support sustainable development in an evolving global context, including through sharing lessons learned and practical experiences.
Through interactive exchanges, participants:
- Shared lessons learned and identified key challenges facing the academic community.
- Highlighted actions needed that require collective effort beyond individual initiatives.
- Explored how HESI and the Communities of Practice can support stronger collaboration and help turn actions into reality.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to map existing initiatives and networks, helping to build a clearer understanding of the current ecosystem and identify opportunities for greater alignment, synergies, and collective impact.
