Measuring Environmental Action and Economic Performance in Developing Countries
Publication Year: 2015 Publisher: GGKP Research Committee on Trade and CompetitivenessRelated Goals
Background
Since the end of the twentieth century, environmental concerns have continued to grow with the scale and diffusion of environmental problems, including forest degradation, oil spills, ozone depletion, biodiversity loss, the illegal trade of wildlife and, more recently, anthropogenic climate change. In parallel, increased globalization, the dismantling of trade barriers, transnational economic activity, international economic competition and consumer demand from various parts of the world have accelerated. This has given rise to widespread debates on the nature of the relationship between the economy and the environment.
