United Nations Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries, and Small Island Developing States (2nd SE4All Forum Commitments)

    Description
    Description
Sustainable energy is also a key component of the Istanbul Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2011-2020, Vienna Programme of Action for the Landlocked Developing Countries for the decade 2014-2024 and the Samoa Pathway for the Small Island Developing States.

OHRLLS has taken several key steps during last year to promote sustainable energy in LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS. The UN Decade of Sustainable Energy for All 2014-2024 has been separately launched for LDCs and SIDS, which gives an opportunity to join our forces to improve the situation and address the specific energy challenges these countries face. The Decade is an extraordinary chance to take action and seek new projects and partnerships.

In addition, OHRLLS has provided various platforms for its constituencies for exchanging views, sharing best practices, and learning, which are the most challenging areas in achieving their energy goals.

In line with the overall objective of the Istanbul Programme of Action - to enable half of the LDCs to meet the criteria for graduation from the LDC category by 2020 - the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries has recently been looking energy as one of the key enablers for graduation. Therefore, sustainable energy was discussed in a Ministerial Meeting on graduation for the Asia-Pacific LDCs organised in Kathmandu in December 2014 and will be discussed in the Ministerial Meeting on graduation for African LDCs in Milan, Italy, later in 2015.
