    Description
    Description

    Revive Our Ocean is a new global initiative inspiring ocean action through an innovative business model that makes coastal marine conservation scalable, sustainable and community-driven. The initiative aims to expedite effective ocean protection by 2030, in line with the 30x30 target established under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15, 2022).
    Highly protected marine areas (MPAs) have proven to replenish marine life by reversing biodiversity loss and boosting local livelihoods, food security, economic growth and climate resilience. However, efforts have not been scaled successfully to date due to:
    (1) a lack of awareness of the benefits of MPAs;
    (2) political barriers to implement them rapidly at the local level;
    (3) the wrong business model.

    Revive Our Ocean proposes to overcome these three major roadblocks through:
    (1) compelling storytelling around the benefits of MPAs;
    (2) national policy reform that enables local governments to establish MPAs with communities.
    (3) tools, training, and resources to create economically viable MPAs.

    Revive Our Ocean will not only help create more coastal MPAs, but, with a coalition, make the ones we have more effective by helping end destructive fishing practices (such as bottom trawling) in MPAs.
