By virtue of the fact that the Gambia embarks on truth seeking to influence the reform processes, it is important for Sexual and Gender based violence victims to share their ordeal with the commission, in order to strengthen institutions such as the security and medical services and also promote gender trans formative approaches to address all the dimensions of gender violations (social, cultural, economic and political). As a result, the Platform considers that, educating grassroots women and girls against Sexual and Gender based violence awareness creation can be a befitting moment to raise awareness on the human rights violation meted to women especially Sexual and Gender based violence during this time gearing up to the 16 day of activism through radio programs will also contribute in commemorating the two-week period in the context of the transitional justice process with its mechanisms of Constitutional Review Commission, Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Institutional and Security Sector Reforms respectively. Noting that the ab uses and human rights violation of women and girls contain a relationship with the security sector, weak legislation and institutions, the platform believe that advocacy and further awareness of Sexual and Gender based violence and others cannot come at a better time when all mechanisms of the transitional justice have begun or are half way in the process. The objectives will be
• Raise awareness on Sexual and Gender Based Violence and on women’s rights to inform the TJ process
• Engage relevant stakeholders (state and Non-state actors) including victims in order to address Sexual and Gender based violence effectively.
• Strengthen and improve communication between the Gender Platform and Transitional Justice mechanisms.
• Ensure through analysis of SGBV in the context of human rights and proactive solutions.
Expected Impact

Expected outcomes:
• Institutional reforms recommendations to strengthen public institutions to effectively combating and responding to SGBV cases
• Management of the negative reaction, justification and narrative from the public thus challenging cultural beliefs.
• Increased awareness on sexual and Gender Based Violence as a violation of human rights and a pre-requisite to eradicate the act
• Strengthen the enforcement of laws through policy briefs earmarked for the Ministries of Justice, Women’s affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
