Making ecobricks for sustainable cities and communities

    Description
    Intro

The practice is about making ecobricks using plastic bottles and pieces of paper which have already been used. It aims at all social and class backgrounds and contexts and there is a month time frame for its implementation.

    Objective of the practice

    Integration of environmental indicators.<br />
Challenges were met when collecting the bottles and the pieces of paper. Students were told about what could be used and they were in charge of getting them.

    Partners
The project was carried out in kindergarten and then it was continued in primary school with students from first, fourth and sixth form.
    Implementation of the Project/Activity

Students were told about a school in Mar Chiquita which was built with recyclable materials. Then, they saw houses built with ecobricks and next they watched a video to learn how to make an ecobrick. Finally, they made their own ecobricks and they learnt a song related to this topic.

    Results/Outputs/Impacts
Students were very conscious of the fact that they had to recycle materials.
    Enabling factors and constraints
The enabling condition that helped the practice to succeed was students' enthusiasm.
A new way of thinking was able to leverage.
    Sustainability and replicability
It is very efficient and it can be implemented at no cost to the institution.
Students are going to get in touch with children from other schools to spread the word and to encourage them to continue doing this.
    Conclusions

The project had a significant impact on recycling and students learned how to work cooperatively.
