Lighting a Billion Lives

    Description
    Description
Our programme aims to create access to clean lighting for energy deprived households through solar and other clean energy technologies.
    Implementation of the Project/Activity

We have already tied up $ 2 million from Corporates and Government sources and will raise additional funds, as required from Corporates and Foundations to achieve the objective. We are also engaging with local and national financial institutions for facilitating finance for setting up energy enterprises for enhancing the energy access.

We have also formed a dedicated team of 25 professionals to implement the programme and carry out capacity building activities. The programme is implemented in collaboration with local partner agencies such as grassroots NGOs, energy entrepreneurs etc. who set up the energy enterprises (e.g. solar charging stations, solar DC micro-grids etc.) based on public-private partnership model with grant by TERI (from the resources raised from various sources), equity contribution by the entrepreneurs and debt from the local financial institutions. These energy enterprises are responsible for providing the lighting service as well as sale and service of individual solar devices to the community to ensure sustainability of the initiative. In addition, extensive capacity building, user training and hand holding is also undertaken by the TERI team to ensure that the disseminated systems function in a sustainable way.
