The ethos foundation of our brand is based on contributing to the permeability of local shoe manufacturing businesses in Spain. This is closely related to promoting sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth as well as productive employment and decent work for all. Being more affordable to produce elsewhere we have seen over time the shoe industry in Spain being strongly affected by delocalisation. It is extremely important for us to continue supporting the long tradition of shoe manufacturing here. Furthermore, our shoes are all made from upcycled leathers and fabrics. What we so often call 'dead' stock that was once over produced and then didn't serve any purpose. Our mission is to give these materials a second chance and avoid them from going to waste. We only produce very small amounts of stock (6 to 12 pairs of shoes per style and per colour) as we produce these shoes with the limited fabrics that we find available. Ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns is therefore also a very important priority for us.
There are 4 main phases in the implementation of this project which occur twice a year usually. Design phase: mood boards and brainstorming happen within the team. We then develop the collection (Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer). Materials and fabrics are sourced at this stage as we design shoes with fabrics that are upcycled or what is also called ´dead stock´. Following this, first prototypes are made by the factory and rectified if needed. Then production is made in small quantities. Thirdly, photographs and videos are taken for social media and new collections then go online. The last phase are sales made via the website.
We support local businesses by producing all our shoes and sourcing the materials for our products end to end in the region of Alicante.
Everything is coordinated internally apart from the supervision of the production, for quality purposes this has to be done at the factory carried out by one of our employees. There are usually no third parties involved in the coordination of the project.
At l’Atelier de Charlotte 6 people make up the total team. These 6 people overlook the following fields: administrative tasks, production, quality control and time management, social media and stock taking. online.
In 5 years, we have managed to build a strong brand identity in which sustainability plays a key aspect. We are valued and recognised as a brand by many of our followers as a sustainable and ethical company. We work with many of influencers that reflect these values.
