The International Renewable Energy Agency - IRENA (2nd SE4All Forum Commitments)

    Description
    Description
As the sole intergovernmental agency in charge of the promotion of renewable energy and the Se4ALL Renewable Energy hub, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) will continue to help countries worldwide address sharply rising energy needs in an effective and sustainable manner. Our support includes the provision of renewable energy data and statistics; advice on best practices, policy development etc.; insights on financial mechanisms and technological expertise; capacity building programmes; and a large library of publications and other resources. During the 1st SE4ALL Forum, IRENA launched its REMAP 2030, a roadmap that identifies policy needs, opportunities for international cooperation and possible technology options towards the target of doubling the global share of renewable energy by 2030. As a follow up, IRENA is developing a number of country REmap reports in cooperation with country experts, to demonstrate the renewable energy potential within specific circumstances and offer countries with a range of options as they consider their national strategies.

In addition, IRENA is focused on mobilizing action in two of its programmatic activities, namely the Africa Clean Energy Corridor (ACEC) and the SIDS-focused initiative, the Lighthouses. IRENA continues to provide a range of knowledge products to inform the energy debate and support countries as they consider their sustainable development and energy future. Such information includes the latest analysis on costs, jobs and other socio-economic impacts, and technology and policy developments in both on-grid and off-grid settings.
