Helping developing countries tackle climate change

    At the UN meeting on Sustainable Development in June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, China’s Premier Wen Jiabao announced that China will contribute US$6 million to a UNEP trust fund for projects and activities that help developing countries raise their capacity for environmental protection. He also promised that China will make available 200 million yuan ( US$31.7 million) for a three-year international project to help small island countries, least developed countries and African countries tackle climate change.(Statement made by Chinese Prime Minister Wen JIabao at the Rio + 20 Speech at the UN meeting on Sustainable Development in June 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.     Implementation of the Project/Activity

    Implement the commitment undertaken by developed-country parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change to a goal of mobilizing jointly $100 billion annually by 2020 from all sources to address the needs of developing countries in the context of meaningful mitigation actions and transparency on implementation and fully operationalize the Green Climate Fund through its capitalization as soon as possible
