    Description
    Description
    El Sistema Guatemalteco de reas Protegidas (SIGAP), que es gobernado por el Consejo Nacional de reas Protegidas (CONAP), actualmente incluye un total de 336 reas que cubren 3.52 millones de hectreas (ha), que equivalen al 32.33% del territorio nacional. Sin embargo, solo hay seis APMs dentro del SIGAP, que cubren 194,148 ha (5.5% del SIGAP), y solo una APM situada en la regin del Caribe que contiene solo una porcin marina que representa menos del 0.5% del rea marina del pas. El proyecto contribuir en sobrepasar esta limitacin, al crear nuevas reas Protegidas Costero Marinas y ampliar dos APCMs existentes, siguiendo la recomendacin del anlisis de vacos de conservacin marina y aumentando a 407,965.52 ha (11.5% del SIGAP) los ecosistemas marino costeros en rgimen de proteccin. Se incorporan dentro del Sistema Guatemalteco de reas Protegidas (SIGAP) a tres (3) nuevas APMs (Las Lisas-Paraso-La Barrona, Manchn-Guamuchal, y Hawaii-Santa Rosa) y la ampliacin de dos (2) APMs existentes (Parque Nacional Sipacate-Naranjo y Reserva de Usos Mltiples Monterrico), las cuales representan un rea total de 213,817 hectreas (ha), y protegen BD marina de importancia global, fortalecimiendo de las capacidades nacionales y de actores locales para el manejo efectivo de las APMs y la utilizacin y distribucin efectiva de recursos financieros y humanos, el desarrollo de sistemas de monitoreo y gestin adaptativa que permitan atender las amenazas a las APMs y BD;
