    Description
    Intro

Considering the great change in the world caused by the pandemic, the Borusan Group implemented new projects to support social solidarity. With the transition to online education, the #AskıdaEğitimVar (Education on the Hanger) project was implemented together with the Askıda Ne Var (What’s on the Hanger) social enterprise platform to support young people who do not have access to online education. Within the scope of the project, university students were provided with computers, internet packages, online book subscriptions, mentoring and support for access to online education platforms for them to continue their education without interruption.

    Implementation of the Project/Activity

The project was implemented by Borusan Holding corporate communication department employees with the Askıda Ne Var (What’s on the Hanger) social enterprise platform to support young people who do not have access to online education and are devoid of this right. With the Askıda Eğitim Var (Education on the Hanger) social initiative -inspired by the practice of "bread on a hanger”, an ancient Ottoman tradition- which aims to enable young people who are the future of our country to improve themselves in the best possible way, support has been provided to them in these challenging conditions. Within the scope of the project, university students were provided with computers, internet packages, online book subscriptions, mentoring and support for access to online education platforms for them to continue their education without interruption. Collaborations have been made with various institutions to provide students with different needs. Borusan Holding CEO Erkan Kafadar as well as Borusan's senior management supported the project by mentoring. Borusan employees also participated as supporters in the campaign, for which Borusan has allocated approximately 500,000 TL budget. The project was launched with a campaign video and social media announcements for each campaign. Winners were identified and contacted at the end of the 10-day participation process.

    Enabling factors and constraints

With the transition to online education, many students' access to education started to be restricted. Although reaching young people in need was a difficult process, thanks to our collaborations, more people could be reached than anticipated. Also, it has been possible to reach young people in need with the communication works we conducted on social media by taking advantage of the power of technology. With the solidarity of our employees, our project, which started in the form of providing a computer and internet package, has been enriched with online book subscription, mentorship, and access to online education platforms.

    Sustainability and replicability

Our project, which implemented under conditions where we better understand the value of solidarity, sets an example for many institutions. Throughout the project, we worked with the social initiative "Askıda Ne Var" and this made it easier for the project to be replicated and implemented by different institutions. In case the distance education and the need continue, the project can be repeated, or it can be applied for new needs that will arise. This project, which is implemented with the participation of individuals, without being dependent on a single person or institution, is suitable to meet every need. With this project, which inspires the sustainability of social solidarity, the great impact of the voluntary work has been demonstrated.

    COVID-19 Impact

To contribute to the fight against the epidemic, Borusan implemented the Askıda Eğitim Var project, which focuses on the spirit of solidarity and volunteering during the pandemic period. Despite the many problems caused by the epidemic, it has strengthened social solidarity. It has become a necessity for both institutions and individuals to work together to reduce the effects of the pandemic. Our project, which we have implemented in this context, has emerged with the idea that access to technology is the right of everyone in the digitalizing world. It has been our priority to minimize the effects of the pandemic on university students. In addition to the support packages, with the mentorship programs has been enabled young people to continue to work for a good future under all conditions.
