Amplifying SDG 6 towards people-centric sustainability in the spirit of NEXUS approach

Objectives:
• Promoting Water as a socio-economic connector in everyday lives, utilization of science and nature as a key indicator to disseminate awareness and temper and raise capacity building of the people
• Catalyst for developing a common strategic action and practices to facilitate judicious and sustainable realization of SDG 6 targets
• ‘Call for action’ to adopt trans-sectoral management of natural resources via integrated approach and address the barriers around national interests, security concerns and upstream-downstream trade-offs can be overcome through the nexus approach.
• Emphasis on exploring the opportunities of coordinated and integrated actions between climate change and aim to do away with the ‘silo’ thinking between the inter-connected targets
• Address marine plastic debris and micro-plastics, priority area of actions to reduce plastics both on ‘production’ and ‘consumption’ side.
• Devolving cross-cutting practices and technological interventions with focus on Adaptation measures than Mitigation to engulf the gap between social, economic and environmental pillars of sustainable development
• Aim for capacity building support towards Localisation and Customisation of SDGs and shift from short-term gains to long-lasting services, beyond 2030

Implementation methodologies:
• Extensive outreach through social media like posters, graphics, write-ups involving facets of water conservation and cross-thematic issues like plastic pollution and waste management, public health aspects, gender and conservation of our natural resources.
• Webinars/online events and training programs shall be conducted towards capacity building of communities
• Sustainable strategies towards leveraging ‘Global to Local’ approach and showcasing 30 best practices of natural resource conservation and practicing effective climate change adaptation strategies.
• Communication letters and write-ups at national, local and global level in realms of environment policies/regulations/standards/guidelines on water management
• Involving schools and local communities towards plantation drives with a target of 500 plant saplings towards promoting carbon sinks and preserving the natural capital
• Leveraging a platform for opportunity to create awareness to foster sharing best practices, innovations to bring transformational behavioral change towards discarding plastics in any form, especially single.

Follow-up mechanisms: IWF shall facilitate collection of experiences/information as a result of aforesaid activities and prepare a report so as to ascertain the qualitative outcomes against the objectives. The Foundation, with the help of Ambassadors of Climate Change will facilitate collection of information from communities and individuals with the help of a questionnaire and survey so as to gauge the outcomes of our activities as per objectives. The findings based on this information will be incorporated in a report which will be sent to the designated authority. The information thus garnered will be collated, scrutinized and compiled before it is analyzed. The outcomes shall be widely circulated and publicized through social media handles and print media. IWF will maintain records of the reports sent to the designated from time to time. If resources allow, feedback shall be monitored through feedback from common citizens, key influencers at the every level and from citizens using the personal visits & direct observations, webinars, Group Meetings, etc.
