Progress report for
Youth Education through Sport (YES)
Achievement at a glance
The Community Sport Development (CSDP) National Secretariat which was steering the YES programme activities under the Sports and Recreation Commission has ceased to exist. The CSDP National Secretariat was largely funded through the support of the funding partner NIF, this has impacted on the delivery of the YES programme.\\r\\n\\r\\nThe Sports and Recreation Commission has managed to sustain the YES programme by integrating it into the National Games programme, wherein, the National YES Festival is hosted every December as a precursor to the hosting of the National Youth Games. The YES Festival is hosted to coincide with the National Tree Planting Day and the World AIDS Day in the first week of December.\\r\\n\\r\\nCompetitions are hosted in the 10 provinces of the country where teams/clubs that qualify in the provincial competitions will compete at the National YES Festival. The YES programme reach on an annual basis is approximately 30,000 youth (male & female) below the age of 15 year. This figure may be surpassed particularly given that most teams that have embraced the value of the life-skills component of the programme are coming from the schools.\\r\\n\\r\\nFunding of the programme has been adversely affected as the Funding partner-NIF has withdrawn direct funding of the YES programme, the other remaining partners SAfAIDS and PLAN Zimbabwe support in terms of technical and logistical support which is not enough for programme implementation. The Sports and Recreation Commission while continuing to implement the YES Programme has funding constraints to realize maximum benefits of this initiativeChallenges faced in implementation
