Background
World Toilet Day (19 November)
World Toilet Day is a day to tackle the global sanitation crisis – a topic often neglected and shrouded in taboos. Today, 4.2 billion people live without access to safely managed sanitation. Given that floods, droughts and rising sea levels are threatening sanitation systems – from toilets to septic tanks to treatment plants -- this year’s World Toilet Day is dedicated to “sustainable sanitation and climate change.”
