Background

The Division for Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DSDG/UNDESA), in collaboration with the national government of Malawi, the Malawi Local Government Association (MALGA), UNOSD, UN Habitat, the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office and the UNDP Malawi, is organizing a “National Capacity Building Workshop on Improved Local and National Government Capacities for Localizing SDGs Through Voluntary Local Reviews in Malawi,” to be held in Lilongwe, Malawi during 24-26 April 2024.

The objective of the workshop is to enhance local governments’ capacities in Malawi to carry out and monitor their SDG implementation, initiate action to conduct the country’s first series of voluntary local reviews (VLRs), linking the VLRs to the VNR process, and enhancing their contribution to the country’s midpoint review on national SDG progress.
