A. Background
Ocean and coastal issues were a key focus of the Rio+20 Conference, thanks to the strong mobilization of Member States and the broader ocean community. Rio+20, however, was just one step in advancing sustainable development of oceans, as the global ocean community now faces the challenges of implementing the Rio+20 ocean outcomes.
B. Objective
The side event will offer the opportunity to discuss key challenges and opportunities in implementing the Rio+20 ocean outcomes as well as Member State perspectives and priorities with regard to oceans in the post-Rio+20 context.
