Background
The Division for Sustainable Development Goals, DESA, in collaboration with Paraguay’s Technical Secretariat for Planning and Economic Development, the participating local governments (Boqueron, Campo Aceval, Filadelfia, Irala Ferndandez, Loma Plata and Mariscal Estigarribia) and the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT), is organizing a second national multistakeholder workshop on voluntary local reviews (VLRs) in Paraguay. The workshop will focus on coordination between national government and local authorities in advancing implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Paraguay’s National Development Plan 2030, and the role of VLRs in this regard. The event will provide the opportunity for the six municipalities to exchange information and approaches in preparing their draft VLRs, as well in including the 2030 Agenda and Paraguay’s national development plan in their local development planning instruments and practices. Authorities from additional municipalities will also take part in the workshop with a view to learning from the experiences of the Chaco region municipalities.
