Description (max 150 words)

Innovation and technology has a very important role to play in climate change adaptation and mitigation. At the COP27 in Egypt in November last year, we launched the new WIPO flagship publication Green Technology Book. This digital-first and free publication aims to provide an overview of proven and new innovation and technology which can offer solutions to global challenges. The first edition focused on climate change adaptation technologies and has close to 1 million visitors, mostly from developing countries. The next edition, planned for release at COP28 in Dubai, focuses in climate change mitigation technologies. It is a text-light publication with emphasis on showcasing actual technologies. Through its direct link to the WIPO GREEN Database of Needs and Green Technologies where solution providers can be contacted directly, the book also is an important matchmaking tool.

Description (max 150 words)

WIPO GREEN implements on-the-ground matchmaking projects in several countries. The LAC project focuses on climate smart agriculture (CSA) and has been active since 2019. Through local consultants we identify entities (farmers, communities etc.) who are looking for solutions to challenges and match them with potential technology providers. We assist in the process of clarifying expectations, feasibility of the potential solutions, and in addressing other barriers for deployment. The projects are based on the perception that globally, people are increasingly facing serious environmental challenges, and that very often the solutions are already available and feasible, but also that there is a knowledge gab between the needs and the solutions. The project has in each country a specific focus within CSA such as the fruit sector, zero-till, forest, and in Uruguay on livestock.
