Turkey
Thank you Mr. Chairman,
Distinguished delegates, we welcome the contributions of UN secretariat for the
paper on air pollution. Sustainable development is one of the principles of
Turkey?s National Development Plan. In this context Turkey, attaches
importance to the cleaner fuels and switching from traditional biomass fuels. We
implement many projects for both capacity building and implement investments
for renewables. Turkey believes that, for improving the air quality in the urban
environment, use of improved technology for the national sources such as coal
and use of cleaner energy sources are important. In addition to the natural gas as
a cleaner source, we suggest the other sources of renewables such as
hydroenergy, should be added to the text, since it is a 0 CO2 source.
As to the air pollution, due to industrial production, the efficiency of energy use
is important and financial resources and incentives should be supplied to the
industry for supporting their work. Turkey, being in the process of EU
harmonization is trying to increase the efficiency of energy use which will
improve the air quality. We believe that financial and technical support of the
international financial institutions for the use of environmentally friendly and
clean-coal technologies is important, and we suggest countries should give much
importance to this issue.
