Slovakia
SLOVAK REPUBLIC
Post-2015 Intergovernmental Preparatory Process
Declaration Discussions, 18 February 2015
Delivered by: Valeria Zolcerova,
Permanent Mission of the Slovak Republic to the UN
Distinguished Co-Facilitators, firstly, allow me to thank you for the Elements Paper stimulating our discussions at this time.
• I align my statement with the statement delivered by the European Union and I am pleased to share with you some of our national views which we consider to be important in the context of the declaration.
• We believe that the Declaration will be an important part of the Post-2015 agenda. The Declaration needs to highlight the transformative and universal nature of the agenda. It should reflect the transformative approach and send a strong political message to encourage the achievement of a sustainable development agenda with its three dimensions.
• The Declaration should be easy to understand and concise. It should also set out the purpose of the agenda – poverty eradication and sustainable development. The Declaration should be forward-looking and innovative to fit the integrated approach of the agenda.
• It needs to emphasize the universal values by encompassing principles of human rights, democratic governance, peace, equality and respect for the environment.
• The key principles of global partnership based on shared responsibility should also be emphasized in the Declaration. Everybody needs to have its role in the new development agenda. The Declaration should contain key messages to achieve collective action by mobilizing all significant actors and resources.
• We hope that a New Global Partnership for Development will mean a paradigm shift towards acting together. The declaration should be a “call for action†emphasizing the collective efforts to solve global issues.
• The Declaration should emphasize the significance of monitoring and accountability framework which is inevitable to the implementation of the new agenda. The post-2015 agenda should be guided by the principle of accountability and ownership.
• It should send a clear message: leaving no-one behind, ensure inclusiveness, attention to the poorest and most vulnerable, women´ s rights and gender equality.
• Mr. Co-Facilitator, I would like to assure you that Slovakia remains dedicated to the discussions on the Post-2015 and rely upon you leadership.
• Thank you for your attention
