PAKISTAN’s INTERVENTION AT THE SIXTH SESSION OF THE POST-2015 DEVELOPMENT AGENDA
(31 July 2015)
• Thank you Mr. Facilitator,
• We fully associate with the statement made by the distinguished representative of South Africa on behalf of Group of 77 & China.
• We would also like to thank you both, for producing this latest text for adoption.
• We appreciate your all the hard work and efforts that you have put in to bring us all this far. In view of my delegation, with this revised version, we are very close to an agreement.
• We also note that at this late stage, we all need to demonstrate a constructive spirit to conclude our work. If we attempt to conduct a major overhaul of this document, it could be counter productive.
• In that spirit, we would limit our intervention to few of the core issues.
• In regard to preamble, we could go along with the proposed shorter version.
• We think that references of 2005 World Summit Outcome Document in paragraph 10 could be reflected in paragraph 11 where we recall the outcome of all the major UN Conferences and Summits in the context of the Sustainable Development.
• We also agree and support to the comments made by China on the reference to Millennium declaration in paragraph 13. In our view, the reference to Millennium Declaration could be best reflected in paragraph 11 alongside other major UN Conferences and Summits
• The correct contextualization of reference to CBDR in paragraph 12 is extremely important for us. We therefore suggest the deletion of reference to Principle 7 in this paragraph.
• On paragraph 26, with regard to references to youth dividend, we could agree to replace these words with demographic dividend as suggested by Ghana. We also think that it would be useful to add the following words from your previous formulation at the end of the paragraph. The words would be after comma and with state, “all of which contributes to sustainable development”.
• On paragraph 31, we also think that this require further work to be acceptable to ensure that it does not prejudge the outcome of climate change negotiations.
• In Chapter 2, regarding the streamlining of targets, we could accept your amended package.
• In Chapter 3, we could go along with your current formulation however we are flexible to further streamlining the text. We, however, maintain that annexing the Addis outcome will not be acceptable for us.
I thank you for your attention
