Talking Points:
Thank you very much. From Mexico, our highest respect to
Her Excelency Ms. Mona Juul, President of ECOSOC, to
Mr. Liu Zhenmin, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs; and Ms. Vera Songwe, Executive Secretary, Economic Commission for Africa
In the name of the Chieff of Staff of Mexico’s President, we strongly celebrate the presentation of all these Acceleration Actions to achieve the SDGs and overcome the main challenges that hurt our countries, and the entire world. In Mexico, we are focusing on the most vulnerable people; those who live in extreme poverty in the first place. Also, most of the vulnerable women are facing house working with no social protection, and are those women who suffer more the inequality gaps.
In my country we are living an important moment, women doing house work will acces to Health Care system. As this process is happening, the
2030 Agenda Office, in alliance with the United Nations System in Mexico has launched a two-year project with three principal purposes:
1. To contribute to the transition from the pilot program for the registration to social security of domestic workers, towards a permanent regime.
2. To consolidate a national care system
3. To establish a social protection strategy addressed to women in seasonal agricultural work in Mexico.
Furthermore, in the South of Mexico, we work with the local people, social entrepreneurs and international funds to create the “SDG Community”. The first are already built on Nacajuca and Ocuituco, Tabasco. It is a development of adequate integrated projects, following local rural / urban plans. These projects are based on housing as the catalyst for sustainable development based on actions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. In Nacajuca is the development of the first 3D homes. Literally a house which is printed by a machine. This is the first time in the world 3D homes are built for people in extreme poverty situation.
Finally, I would like to highlight that these activities are examples of successful multisector initiatives and show us that the 2030 Agenda is for all sectors and to all of the society. Strategic alliances are the core to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs.
Thank you all. Our best regards from the Mexican government.
