Introduction
• Good afternoon Colleagues, ladies and gentlemen.
• I want to tthank you, Hon. Obeth Kandjoze. Director General of the National Planning Commission (NPC) for opening this meeting. I am especially appreciative that we continue to work very well together.
• Welcome, and it a pleasure to meet you Ms. Wilhencia Uiras, the newly appointed Executive Director of the National Planning Commission (NPC), and
• Thank you to my Colleague Ms. Rachel Odede. Resident Coordinator ai, UN Namibia (UNN) for your inspiring opening remarks.
• I would like to thank you all for joining us today.
• It is a privilege to speak on the occasion of the Official launch of Capacity Building on Public Policy Development, Review, Evaluation and Coordination for the Acceleration of the SDGs in Namibia.
• I wish to first congratulate NPC for its achievement, by launching this joint work.
• This is a joint initiative between NPC, GIZ, UNDESA and UN Namibia to ensure policy coordination and coherence towards the achievement of the National Development Plans (NDPs) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs).
SDGs and Partnership
• The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a universal policy agenda that aims to end poverty, achieve food security, reduce inequality and realize other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

• In response to the COVID-19 crisis, the UN Secretary General António Guterres said1 “With the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, we have an enduring and unifying vision; a framework to guide our decisions as we look to respond and recover better.”
• “From the awakening that this crisis is providing, we have a chance to create an inclusive, networked and effective multilateralism.”
• As urged by the UN Secretary General, we need a revitalized and coordinated global partnership to advance recovery efforts towards the SDGs. No one can do it alone.
UN Commitment
• As a representative of the UN system in Namibia, I am proud that the United Nations in Namibia has been able to support the NPC and other Government Ministries in enhancing policy coordination and coherence for the implementation of the SDGs, jointly with our partners.
• Today, at its launch, I want to reiterate the full commitment of the UN family to assist the NPC in its efforts to realize its important mandate.
• Thank you again to NPC for the leading role you have taken in developing this initiative, and for preparations of this Official launch.
• I wish you all an excellent webinar with fruitful discussions and cooperation.
• I look forward to our further collaboration with the Government of Namibia.
