(Sustainable) Energy
Economic growth, employment and infrastructure
SI and MNE elements for 11th session of OWG SDGs
Focus area 7: Energy
We support stand-alone goal on sustainable energy, as energy is an important
cornerstone of any development and is strongly connected to many other issues.
We welcome the inclusion of possible actions from SE4ALL initiative in goal on
energy namely the targets aimed at enabling double share of renewable energy in
global energy mix by 2030, increasing share of clean and low- or zero- emission
energy technologies and ensuring universal access to sustainable modern energy
services by 2030.
We wish to reiterate our support to strengthening international energy cooperation
and energy dialogue with all relevant stakeholders.
Focus Area 8: Economic growth, employment and infrastructure
We welcome co-chairs' approach to economic growth that takes into consideration
social dimensions of employment and income distribution.
We support your approach that in this focus area we address the protection of rights
of all workers and in this regard we welcome the link with ILO fundamental rights at
work.
We would support possible target on formalization of informal employment.
We should give stronger focus on the promotion of non-agriculture employment
opportunities in rural areas.
We welcome stronger emphasis on addressing environmental concerns through
possible target on increasing energy and resource efficiency and productivity in
economic activities. Progress on resource productivity can be measured through
resource productivity indicator.
Attention should be also given to sustainable economic sectors that have potential for
job creation.
2
We believe that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have important role in
economic growth, innovation and that also have job-creation potential. Possible
action on SMEs should also include enabling access to financial resources for
women and youth entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs from other vulnerable groups.
Regarding infrastructure we reiterate our position that planning of infrastructure
should take into consideration its implications for sustainable development from lifecycle
perspective.
It is important that enablers of economic development, especially trade and rule of
law, remain properly addressed in new agenda.
